Education in Myanmar

There is an education crisis in Myanmar. After the military coup in 2021, millions of children were left without access to education for multiple years in a row. This has set back their learning journey and may have generational consequences without intervention. Further, the Myanmar education system has not seen real development in over 7 decades. The current curriculum does not meet international standards.

Addressing these two issues are our primary goals in Myanmar. Through our online platform, we can reach areas without physical infrastructure and teach children who had to abandon their homes due to safety concerns. One of our students' largerst barriers under this system is access to internet and electricity in military-controlled areas. We are constantly seeking new ways to ameliorate the impact of this limitation. Regardless, the students and teachers are resilient and work hard to learn through any situation.

Though digital literacy rates in Myanmar are low, NGM students and teachers improve their ability to use modern technology by attending school virtually. We host digital literacy training courses freely for all NGM affiliates. Teachers can attend technology workshops to expand their digital vocabulary and learn to use new programs . Students are encouraged to use the internet to conduct research and explore new resources. Beyond technology training, we also offer English, Japanese, and Korean language classes.

The traditional curriculum would be difficult to implement online, so we have adapted. Students are not assessed through tests as is typical. Instead teachers lead the students through projects. These projects are designed to foster problem-solving, critical-thinking, and collaborative skills.

We are currenlty using a modified version of the Myanmar curriculum, but a new curriculum is underway. We are combining principles from neuroscience, psychology, and educational science to build a new system for learning that prioritizes the students ability to grow and learn in their own way. The world is changing quickly, and the most important skill our graduates can have is to adapt in order to achieve their personal dreams.

NGM Leadership

NGM is led by a diverse group of personalities and experts. We've pulled together a team of individuals from a wide range of backgrounds. From neuroscientists to organizers and educators, the team has decades of collective experience across relevant fields. Despite their varying pasts, they all share a vision for the future.

The role of leadership is guide and facilitate growth. Each leader contributes to the expansion of the school in their respective areas. In this way, we can simultaneously develop our curriculum, systems, student support networks, and every other pillar of our institution. Our promise to each of our affiliates is continuous improvement.
